We are pleased to announce that OTL Group has been appointed to deliver the conversion of the former morgue at Aberbeeg Hospital into modern staff accommodation and welfare facilities. This sensitive project will breathe new life into a historic building and support improved staff facilities on site.

What we will do

The scheme involves converting the former morgue building and replacing two adjacent garage structures to provide ancillary staff accommodation and welfare facilities, together with associated external works and landscaping. Our scope includes structural adaptations, internal refurbishment, new services and landscaping to create practical, comfortable spaces for staff.

Heritage and planning considerations

The building sits within a historic hospital setting, and the scheme has been put forward with sensitivity to the site’s architectural and heritage context. We will work closely with the client and the local planning authority to ensure our approach respects the building’s character while delivering a contemporary, functional fit-out.

Health, safety and site set-up

Safety is our top priority. Before any work starts we will complete a detailed site set-up plan, welfare provision for our workforce, traffic and logistics management, and a full methodology for safe working in and around the existing structures. Where required, temporary protective measures will be installed to safeguard the retained fabric of the building.

Community and stakeholder engagement

We recognise the importance of good communication on projects located within established communities. OTL Group will coordinate with the client, the local authority and neighbours to minimise disruption, share programme updates and address any queries throughout the build.

Next steps and timetable

Preparatory works and site set-up will begin shortly, followed by the main conversion works. We will publish regular progress updates and photos as the project advances. If you’d like to discuss the project or OTL Group’s approach to similar heritage-sensitive conversions, get in touch.
