Delivered as part of a specialist suite at Wellesley, the project involved the full demolition and reconfiguration of existing offices and storage areas to create a purpose-built seclusion environment, complete with de-escalation lounge, bedroom, ensuite, and supporting care spaces. The layout was developed collaboratively, reflecting OTL Secure’s in-house knowledge of how seclusion spaces are used in practice, ensuring the environment functioned intuitively for both service users and clinical staff within a live healthcare setting.
Central to the project was the installation of the first-of-its-kind Serenity Panel from Kingsway, marking the first UK delivery of this pioneering system. The interactive panel integrated circadian lighting, calming visuals, music, and a personalised user interface, shifting the focus of seclusion away from purely physical containment toward emotional regulation and user empowerment. This milestone installation represented a significant advancement in how technology could positively influence de-escalation and wellbeing within secure care environments.
The seclusion room itself was constructed entirely from the ground up, with every element selected to reduce risk and enhance resilience. Seamless resin wall and floor finishes, reinforced substrates, and anti-ligature ironmongery were installed to create a robust, safe, and easily maintainable space. Fixings, junctions, and detailing were carefully considered to remove potential hazards, reflecting OTL Secure’s commitment to precision in high-risk environments where details carry critical importance.
Beyond the seclusion room, the wider care area was completed to the same bespoke standard, incorporating colour-changing lighting, specialist sanitaryware, and secure fittings throughout. Close collaboration with trusted supply chain partners ensured that all components met the highest standards of performance, durability, and compliance, while maintaining a calming, therapeutic atmosphere aligned with modern mental healthcare principles.
The Wellesley Seclusion Room project demonstrated OTL Secure’s ability to translate experience into innovation. By combining bespoke design, specialist construction, and pioneering technology, the project delivered a safer, smarter care environment that supported both service users and staff. As a landmark installation of the Serenity Panel and a fully custom seclusion solution, it stood as a milestone project that reinforced OTL’s mission to create environments that truly transform lives.
